My name is Sarah and I'm a once-skinny-kid macaroni-eating-swimmer now dangerously turned on to CrossFit, Paleo nutrition and overall badass-ness.
I am training as a first time participant for CrossFit's 2011 Sectional Qualifier and, through this, hope to increase my physical strength and (otherwise absent) mental fortitude. No more frustration during WODs. No more "I can't". I will stop being good at one thing, and become great at everything.
The classic, sorta complicated, sorta need coordination head-game movement that we all think is impossible, when in reality.. we could totally do it. I started CrossFit not knowing how to jump rope normally. I’m talking single-unders (no, I never did it as a kid— I hoola-hooped).
Now, yesterday, I hit a WOD consisting of 40 double-unders per round (at 5 freakin rounds!), clustering 18 at a time. Holy— I never thought the day would come where I would be able to do a double-under WOD RX’d, not to mention doing more than 1 at a time. See? It’s not impossible.
If you have trouble with the double-under (and I am still no expert), start incorporating it into your warm-up. This will guarantee that you work on it at least every time you work-out. Think about jumping on your toes and keeping your arms tight to your sides, rotating only your wrists to move the rope. It almost becomes an art. Of course, Kevin puts my 18 double-under-cluster art to shame… (see movement demo below).
Now, changing the topic to why ALL OF YOU should include blueberries as a fundamental staple in your diet:
Blueberries are anti-oxidants that neutralize free radicals that are linked to aging,
Prevent cancer development,
Are rich in vitamins C, E, riboflavin, niacin, and folate,
Protect the brain from environmental toxins… and the list goes on.
They are easy to snack on and are relatively affordable, especially when bought at wholesale clubs such as BJ’s.
