SARAH GETS STRONG: A CROSSFIT/PALEO LOVE AFFAIR *

My name is Sarah and I'm a once-skinny-kid macaroni-eating-swimmer now dangerously turned on to CrossFit, Paleo nutrition and overall badass-ness.

I am training as a first time participant for CrossFit's 2011 Sectional Qualifier and, through this, hope to increase my physical strength and (otherwise absent) mental fortitude. No more frustration during WODs. No more "I can't". I will stop being good at one thing, and become great at everything.

Join me on my journey to greatness!

Welcome Back..

I really feel incredible and there is so much to say regarding such.

I apologize for my lack of posts; this weekend was Albany CrossFit’s Weekend Revival, a 2-day-all-day long seminar full of WODs, movement demo’s, lectures, and fabulous food. Now, experiencing the aftermath, I can already feel what it has done for me both physically and mentally.

I don’t think there is an appropriate enough caption for this..

Updates to come. Until then, here is a small write-up I put together for today’s blog post at AlbanyCrossFit.com:

…driven, motivated, encouraged, determined… my God. I just can’t get enough.

There is no satiation when it comes to becoming a better athlete, healthier athlete, or, even more importantly, a better individual. This weekend’s Revival was more than a 2-day long CrossFit immersion. True, it did highlight CrossFit ideologies, movements, and methods as it pertains to becoming a fitter person. But looking deeper, this “becoming a fitter person” has everything to do with becoming a more positive person, a more goal-oriented person, and, finally, a more confident person.

Are these sorts of qualities necessary to create a happy and successful life?

Yes, indeed they are.

I will go as far to say that this weekend was a re-ignition of specific qualities in many people, including myself. What do I mean by this? Well, when we discussed “What is CrossFit”, or the technicality of Olympic lifts, or the qualities necessary to maintain a Paleo/Paleo-Zone lifestyle, there was a common denominator for them all: dedication and confidence.

Oh my— that form! On the last of 5 rounds of: 15 hang-squat cleans @ 85lbs, 15 pushups (w/ release)

How does one become a strong, kick-ass CrossFitter?
Dedication and confidence.
How does one conquer the technicality of Olympic lifts?
Dedication and confidence.

How does one maintain a permanent Paleo or Paleo-Zone lifestyle? Dedication and confidence.

There are certainly more variables that constitute this “common denominator”, and perhaps it may differ for everybody. But, for myself, having the dedication necessary to succeed will over-power any obstacles that appear. Likewise, the confidence and belief in my own abilities will help me own my weaknesses, both physical and mental.

I have to say, this weekend definitely brought out these qualities in people and it was really beautiful to see.
